Argentina Wine Regions
The wine regions of Argentina are vast and varied. Start with the Northern regions of Salta and Tucumán where the famed Torrontés is prevalent. Here you also find some of the highest altitude vineyards in the world. The Central (Cuyo) region is where most wines from Argentina are produced. From the very hot flats of San Raphael to the DOC for Malbec in Luján de Cuyo down to the southern Valle de Uco noted as the Napa of Argentina. The Patagonia region is fast gaining notoriety for its quality wines and experimentation with new varietals. The latest up and coming region in the Atlantic area is harnessing the cooler coastal region to develop wines that are better suited to the climate.
Everyone knows Argentina produces some of the best Malbecs but the country isn't only about the Malbec. Cabernet Sauvignon's more reminiscent of the Bordeaux style with greener notes than the classic California Cab; Torrontes with its distinct floral aromas and tastes; the richly colored Bonarda possessing fruity aromas with strong intense flavors, for examples.
